Description of Preschool Programs
There are 3 levels of programming within the Glendale Preschool.
1) Community Education Preschool (CEP)--this is a general education classroom supporting students with and without IEPs. Students may enroll or be placed in this class by paying tuition, receiving a scholarship, or having an IEP.
2) Universal Preschool--this is a special education classroom supporting students with IEPs.
3) Sensory & Communication Preschool--this is a special education classroom supporting students with IEPs. Students may be placed in this class by having an IEP.
Community Education Preschool (CEP)
The Community Education Preschool (CEP) Program has two different options this school year. There is a full day program, 4 days a week and there is a 3 hour program (AM/PM Sessions), 4 days a week, for children 4-5 years of age.
The CEP program is designed to meet the needs of students with general education and special education services.
Our classroom consists of 1 early childhood general education teacher and 1-2 educational assistants.
Speech Pathologists and/or Occupational Therapists may also come into the CEP program to support small groups of students with IEPs.
Teachers develop lesson plans based upon the Arizona Early Childhood Learning Standards (AzELS).
Students follow a daily routine based on our classroom schedule. The schedule consists of learning centers, 1:1 teacher and student time, group activities, such as: circle time, snack, and outside time.
Teaching Strategies GOLD is used by the state of Arizona and Glendale Elementary as our system of monitoring general preschool development of all preschool students.
The determination of what preschool program is most appropriate will be done in conjunction with an educational team.
Universal Preschool Program
The Universal Preschool Program is a 3 hour program, 4 days a week, for children 3-5 years of age. We have a morning and an afternoon session.
The majority of the students within the classroom have qualified for special education services. The class is taught by a special education teacher along with 2 educational assistants.
The Universal program provides a smaller adult to child ratio than our CEP program.
Instruction includes pre-academic/thinking skills, social-emotional skills, self-care and routines, language and communication, fine & gross motor activities. A variety of activities are provided in centers, small groups and large group settings.
Speech Pathologists and/or Occupational Therapists may also come into the Universal program to support small groups of students with IEPs.
Teachers and our preschool staff collect data specific to goals listed in each child’s IEP.

Sensory & Communication Preschool Program
The Sensory & Communication Preschool Program is a 3 hour program, 4 days a week, for children 3-5 years of age. We have a morning and an afternoon session.
All students within the classroom have qualified for special education services. The class is taught by a special education teacher along with 2-3 educational assistants.
The Sensory & Communication program provides a smaller adult to child ratio than our CEP and Universal programs. We provide services for children who need a consistent daily sensory diet and visual support for communication in order to function in a classroom setting. Children in our Sensory & Communication program receive individualized instruction and support as listed in their IEPs.
Instruction includes pre-academic/thinking skills, social-emotional skills, self-care and routines, language and communication, fine & gross motor activities. A variety of activities are provided in centers, small groups and large group settings.
