General Conduct (School, Bus Stops, Buses, and General School Functions) Good behavior makes school a pleasant place for everyone, and a fun place to learn. Whether in class, on the playground, in the cafeteria, or on the way to and from school, ALL students are expected to:
Personal Behavior
Any behavior that endangers the health or safety of others is prohibited. Examples include running on sidewalks or in hallways, pushing, fighting and throwing objects. Good sense and consideration go a long way in preventing problems before they happen.
Care of School Property/Personal Property
Students are given responsibility for taking good care of their school’s books, equipment, and facilities. If a student loses or damages these items beyond normal wear, the parent/guardian may be held liable for repair or replacement. If a student’s misbehavior results in damage to school property, disciplinary action may also be taken. Students are discouraged from bringing personal property to school. The school is not responsible for damage to, loss or theft of any personal items brought to school. This includes bicycles.
Appearance and Dress Code
Children build self-esteem and confidence when they are well-groomed, so please help your child arrive at school clean and neatly dressed. If a student’s appearance is considered to interfere with the educational process, or if it poses a health or safety hazard, the student will be sent home and the parents will be notified. Each school reserves the right to prohibit clothing or accessories bearing the following types of messages:
Other types of clothing, dress, or grooming may be questionable if they may violate health or safety standards, modesty, or common values. Examples of items which may be prohibited are:
These guidelines are not intended to cover all the constantly changing styles and fads. The definition of "proper dress and grooming" is highly controversial and opinions among people vary. The school and the parents should work together to encourage children to take responsibility for their appearance, and to work within the guidelines set by the school.
Hazardous Materials
Any substance or item that is potentially hazardous, harmful, or disruptive is prohibited. If a student has such materials on campus, the school will confiscate the materials, notify the parents, and arrange for disciplinary action.
