Message from the Superintendent
I am very pleased to be the superintendent in Glendale Elementary
School District and am looking forward to getting to know the many
fine parents and students we have in this District. Since arriving
on February 26, 2007, I have had the opportunity to visit all
schools and departments and learn more about the wonderful programs
and activities that we already have.
All of the District staff is working hard to become an exemplary
district and we have the strong support of our Board of Education to
make needed changes. To meet this goal of excellence, we have a
number of new initiatives to help us ensure that all of our students
achieve at their highest levels.
Our primary focus will be to improve student achievement. We also
want to ensure that all schools are safe, orderly, attractive and
welcoming. We have hired an excellent group of highly qualified
teachers and they are participating in professional development
along with our current teachers beginning July 16. The primary focus
of this training is on improving our teaching of reading. We have
also hired several new outstanding principals and assistant
principals who join an excellent administrative team. In addition,
GESD has a group that includes parents, support staff, teachers, and
administrators working to develop a strategic plan to guide us in
our work for the next five to ten years.
Thank you for the privilege of educating your child. All of us in
GESD welcome and encourage your involvement in your child’s school
and believe that having you as partners in your child’s education
will help us provide an even better education. We hope you will
continue to communicate your ideas and suggestions to help us
improve our District.
We look forward to an outstanding 2007-2008 with your help and
support and the continued work of our excellent staff.
Sincerely,
Sandra D. Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent
