Now that summer is upon us, there are several considerations that might help endure the summer heat, keep us safe and reduce energy usage.

SERVICE:

  • Complete biannual service on air conditioners
  • Check/Install time clocks on electric water heaters
  • Schedule pest control

MAINTENANCE:

  • Test Carbon Dioxide / Carbon Monoxide detectors
  • Test smoke detectors monthly
  • Change/check return air filters monthly
  • Set programmable thermostats to fit lifestyle
  • Clean clothes dryer lint trap after every load and clean the exterior vent and cap quarterly
  • Check weather stripping around windows and doors
  • Close flue on fireplace
  • Check exterior lighting/time clocks and adjust timers/lamps as necessary to provide coverage

LANDSCAPE:

  • Trim all shrubs and trees. Do not allow shrubs to grow taller than 3’ and keep tree canopy’s 10’ above the surface areas.  This pruning practice will provide greater security and safety.
  • Check landscape irrigation timer. Make sure water is adequate for plant material growth, but does not allow for standing water
  • Check landscape drip systems and sprinkler heads for proper function
  • Apply fertilizer now. Our recommendation would be Ammonium Sulfate 21-0-0 on most lawns. This will provide for a quick green of the upper plant growth.
