GESD schools improve AZ LEARNS, AYP status
GLENDALE, Ariz — For the first time since the implementation of the AZ LEARNS system,
all Glendale Elementary School District schools were ranked performing or above.
GESD had four Performing schools, 11 Performing Plus schools and two Highly Performing
schools. In all, 13 schools improved their AZ LEARNS profiles, with four schools —
Bicentennial South, Desert Spirit, Isaac E. Imes and Don Mensendick — moving up two
levels (see the full listing of school performance profiles and AYP standings below).
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standings improved at seven GESD schools. Of the
District’s 17 schools, 12 made AYP. In 2008, only five GESD schools made AYP.
“This is an incredible tribute to the outstanding effort of our entire staff,” said GESD
Superintendent Dr. Sandra D. Johnson. “Each of us comes to work every day determined to
do what’s best for children, and to see results like these is the payoff. We know we’re
moving our schools and students in the right direction.”
