Science Matters Minimize

Are you practicing science safety in your classroom?
Are your students following your lead?
Strand 1 Concept 2 PO 1 asks students to demonstrate safe behavior and appropriate procedures (e.g. use of instruments, materials, and organisms) in all science inquiry.

Teachers need to:
• Lead by example
• Teach safety as a part of the curriculum
• Follow and enforce safety rules, procedures, and practices
• Promote a culture of safety
• Make safety a priority

All schools that teach 6th through 8th grade science have a designated Hazardous Communication Team. The Hazardous Communication Team focuses on creating a safe science environment for our students. If you are not familiar with Hazardous Communication techniques, make sure to invite a trained expert into your classroom to help facilitate a classroom setting where Science Safety Matters.
