The Special Area Classes

Special Ed Teachers are:

Teacher Janette Kaplan, and Aide are shown by the Lemonade Stand.

Students helped serve passersby their homemade lemonade.

It was offerred to staff members, and was delicious!

 

A Description of Special Ed:

This program is designed to provide an

interdisciplinary approach to working with children

who are having social//behavioral and/or special education

setting at the home school. This program includes children in

kindergaren through eighth grade.

 

Examples include:

1. Communication difficulties in the areas of expressive and

receptive language.

2. Social and behavioral difficulties such as tantrums,

inability to meaningful interact with peers, inability to make and

maintain friendships, inablility to function within certain boundaries of

behavior, impulsivity, and/or hyperactivity.

3. Requires monitoring 90-100%.

4. Requires redirection every 10 minutes or less.

5. Lacks independence and/or self-care in the areas of feeding,

toileting and dressing.

6. Assistive Technology and/or Augmentative Communication

Devices are needed participation, communication and daily functioning.

7. Emphasis on Functional Skills. (Self Care, Daily Living Skills).

The Special area classes

 

Adaptive P.E-Sue Powers

Adaptive P.E. is a motor skills development program.

This program provides physical activity and recreational opportunities

to those students who are not able to benefit from regular P.E. due

to motor deficits.

 

Occupational Therapy-Kristen Klenk and Tracy Schraven

Occupational Therapy addresses fine motor deficits in children; making

adaptions, modifications andusing assistive technology as needed.

 

Physical Therapy-Michelle Pipke

Physical Therapy addresses gross motor and movement

difficulties of children with various disabilities through

the use of various special equipment and training staff to maximize

each child's individual abilities.
