Challenger
Space Station
Date: October 30,
2002
Mission: Going To
Mars
Miss Etheridge was
able to bring 34 students with her to the Challenger
Space Station. Each student had a job, such as Life
Support, Navigation Team, and Isolation Team. All the
students were divided into two groups: Mission Control
and Space Ship. The field trip brought a whole new way to
look at studying Mars.
Our next field trip will
be to the Maricopa County Superior Court. We will be
leaving on Wednesday, January 29, 2002. It will be from
8:30 to 11:30 and we will be back in time for
lunch.
Miss
Etheridge
Miss Etheridge was born and
raised in Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State
University in 2001, with a bachelor degree in Education. Ms.
Etheridge also has a minors in Math and Earth Science. Her
favorite subject in school was math and her favorite color
is GREEN : Miss Etheridge loves dogs and is looking
for a new puppy at the pound. She found one she really
liked, but couldn't get it until 1:00 of the next day. More
than likely it would have been gone by the time she got
there, but it wasn't. Therefore, she named him LUCKY
:-)
Math
Class

In Math Class, we
have worked with number sentences and patterns. Recently
we learned more ways to find the GCF (greatest common
factor) and prime factorization.
Currently, we are working
on properties such as the Communitive Property,
Associative Property, ect. We're also working on Algebra,
as well as dividing fractions.
Every week we get a math
packet, usually four pages (eight pages in all, front and
back). Every day Ms. Etheridge goes over certain pages in
the math packet and helps us through it. We also do the
Daily Six, which are a mixture of math and science
questions. They are usually related to what we have
learned, or are going to learn that
day.
We now have something
called a "Math Journal". We'll be keeping all of our
notes in it, plus all of our Study Guide worksheets. It
will count for a reasonable amount of our
grade.
Science
Class

We have been
studying Life Science. We have learned about Cell
Division and Reproduction. Soon we will be learning
about the human body system and birds and mammals. Ms.
Etheridge lets us do group projects in science, and
grades us on the quality of our presentations. Before
we started studying Life Science, we were working in
the area of Mars and the moon. That was around the
time we went to the Challenger Space
Station.
Starting on November
20, 2002, we began learning the area of genetics. We
have learned about Punnet Squares, Mendell, and
alleles.
In January, we began
learning about the human body. We briefly went over
the skeletal system, along with the uscular
system.

The
seventh and eight grade classes will be having a
Winter Party. It will be on December 19, 2002 and will
be from 3-5 P.M. Once you are in, you are not to come
out UNTIL the END of the party. Snacks will also be
available, including pizza. What the students wear to
the party will be what they wear to school, so the
dress code must be obeyed. There will be a variety of
activities going on, including dancing.
