Joseph
Lyons was born in Albany N.Y. You would recognize him
because he might have caught some of you running in the
halls. He graduated from A.S.U.with his bachelors of science
degree in psychology and a masters in education. Mr. Lyons
has taught for five years, three in Maricopa Arizona and two
here in Glendale. In Maricopa he taught special education
for highschool and last year he taught 4th grade here at
Horizon.
On weekends and after school
Mr.Lyons coaches a diving team in Scottsdale Arizona.His
team is called the Clauadistas Del Sol. Last year his team
finished seventh in the country at the natinal
championships. Mr.Lyons enjoys reading,(like any other
teacher) watching movies, and spending as much time outside
as possible.
DAILY
SCHEDULE
We start our day out by doing
the math problem on the board. After that we go over our
math homework and get on with our lesson. Next, we read for
about 40 minutes and write in our litlog. Usually after
reading workshop we have our specials like P.E., art, music,
computers, or library. After our specials, we do writing
workshop where we work on poetry, reports, essays ect. We
usually do writing workshop for about 1 hour. When writing
workshop finishes we go to lunch. Lunch lasts from 12:00-
12:30pm. After lunch we do history and science. In science
we are learning about physics. In social studies we are
starting to study about Rome. At the end of the day, our
teacher tells us what we have for homework. Mr.Lyons than
plays a song that is about 4 minutes long and we pack up our
things to go home. Mr. Lyons ends the day with
reading.
D.A.R.E.
Our D.A.R.E.officer is Officer
Matt. He comes in every Thursday and teaches us about why we
shouldn't do drugs and violence. Officer Matt also
gives away prizes for good behavior and for answering
questions correctly. At the begining of the year he gave us
our D.A.R.E. books that we use for our lessons. When we
finish D.A.R.E. we will have our graduation. Graduation is
scheduled for January 30 2003.
