Bond Project |
In 2004 the voters in the school district passed a class B-Bond of $24,725,000.00 to provide funding to build, remodel and upgrade district facilities. A list of priorities was provided at the time of the election. Listed below is that list and an update on each project.
New School # 18 - The district used part of this funding for the new school unit #18 to build out or finish the new school #17 or Sunset Vista. The State only provided funding to build this school for 500 students. The District funded the cost to complete this new site by building the remaining classroom space for 500 students. The school was completed in January of this year and students first day was on January 9, 2006.
Remodel American-Horizon-Bicentennial North Schools - New school office buildings were built and opened at American and Horizon in the fall of 2005; Bicentennial North opened in January 2006. The old office spaces have been converted into classroom space. Project complete.
Student Support Center Phase I & Phase II - The support center added 7 acres to its complex, which includes a 10,000 square foot warehouse addition, a 10,000 square foot building for the maintenance trades and grounds staff, a new fuel island with the latest software for electronic fuel tacking and new parking for school buses and the support fleet. Project complete.
Security Fencing - School fencing was replaced, added, modified at 9 school sites. This has improved security for the students and facilities. Project complete.
Remodel Burton Restrooms - The student restrooms located in the main building have been completely renovated bringing them up to the new standards. Project completed.
Air Conditioning for Gymnasiums - New air conditioning units have been installed in the gym and locker rooms at Landmark and Challenger Middle Schools. These units replaced the old evaporative coolers. Project complete.
District Parking - A new parking lot was built at the district office. Sixty (60) new spaces were added. The Landmark baseball field was relocated with new lighting, backstop and fencing. Project completed.
Energy Management System Phase I - The district is in the process of upgrading many high energy usage systems in all its facilities. This includes replacing all exit lights with new light fixtures, which require power and are reducing the energy usage (in some) by more then 80%. All new lighting is required to be high energy efficient. We have installed new computer controlled lighting and air conditioning systems. A new chilled water plant with motor speed controls at Landmark School, and 5 new cooling towers with speed controlled motors have been installed. The district has also contracted with SRP and APS to monitor and track all energy usage at all facilities. Project is ongoing.
School Projects Phase I & Phase II - Funding was added to the district’s capital improvement fund to jump-start many school site capital projects. Refer to the “Capital Project” web page for this fiscal year’s list of projects.
