The Bicentennial North Timeline

1976-1980

  •  Bici-North began
  • Bici-North football & cheerleader teams began
  • No walls at Bici-North; you could look from one end to the other!
  • Industrial ed & home economics classes present
  • No east wing at Bici-North
  • Story pit in library
  • First child born to staff
  • Complete science lab
  • Bucky Fuller's Geo-dome constructed
  • Opened Educational Environment model
  • Football, basketball and wrestling inter murals for 7-8 grades
  • First staff / student talent show

 1981-1985

  • Walls go up
  • Language Arts Essential Skills Assessment began (L.A.E.S.)
  • K-8 school, 1,200 students
  • 1st pizza party
  • Home economics & industrial arts come to an end (budget cuts)
  • East wing of school constructed
  • Portable classroom arrive (they're still here and more are being added!)
  • Home Economics and Industrial Arts come to an end due to the building of middle schools

 1986-1990

  • G.E.S.D. builds 3 new schools
  • Bicentennial South built (k-2)
  • Bicentennial North becomes 3-6 school
  • Bici North becomes literacy site
  • PTA splits between Bici North and Bici South
  • School wired for T.V. lab and then disconnected a few years later

 1991-1999

  • Discovery School built (unit 13) eases population for Bici a bit
  • Library reading pit filled in
  • Superbowl Kids Night (Superbowl 30)
  • Ceramic tile wall (part of Artist in Residence program)
  • Iowa or CAT testing reinstated
  • Bici's 20th birthday
  • Reptile exhibit created in library
  • Strong leadership/principal continues to grow and make things positive for Bici
  • Multiple Intelligences explored - M.I.
  • Fiddler artist in residence
  • Science fair revisited after hiatus (and still going strong!)
  • Site council formed
  • Bici-North Bingo reading program generates more enthusiasm for reading
  • District boundary changes
  • New school construction begun (students share campus as guests at Bici and other schools for 3 months)
  • School revamped - parking lot, water sealed, network wiring
  • Many new, spunky teachers arrive
  • 6th grade camp-out becomes tradition
  • Unit 14 completed - guest students/teachers say farewell
  • Taiko Artist in residence comes to Bici. Student enthusiasm for the art is at a high. Students are asked to perform at a number of events around the valley.

2000 and beyond!

  • Bici-North goes paperless! Intranet web site created to keep staff and students updated.
  • One computer (or more) in every classroom.
  • Telephone system upgraded to include a phone in each classroom.
  • Caught Being Good incentive program revamped and updated.
  • Attendance zone divided and Coyote Ridge, new school is built
  • Coyote Ridge start 01-02 school year at Bici North for the first quarter, awaiting final completion of their school
  • Smallest number of students ever - less than 700 - for the 2001-2002 school year
  • Eight additional classroom are built 2001-2002
  • All old portables are removed!
  • New landscaping installed.
  • Addition of three functional skills classes.
