Letter from the Principal...

I am very excited about the coming school year and I look forward to working with you and the American School staff to provide a wonderful challenging educational experience for all students.

My background includes experience as a teacher, student advisor, assistant principal and principal. My husband and I make our home in Glendale so I am happy to work in the community where I live. My three children are grown and gone, but once they too attended American School.

I believe that by working together, we can continue to ensure that our students will be provided with excellent educational opportunities and programs. We all want our schools to provide academic excellence in an environment that is positive and encouraging.

I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children. Please do not hesitate to call the school if you have any questions or concerns related to your child or the school in general.

Nurse's Station

Glendale Elementary School District has 17 schools and all are serviced by an RN. They provide services for both students and staff. All are involved in vision and hearing testing done yearly, scoliosis screening, and height and weight screenings.

Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. Overexposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun damages the skin and increases skin cancer risk. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. To protect yourself wear sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit exposure when outdoors. Just one or two bad childhood sunburns increases the chance of developing skin cancer later in life.

If your child has received any immunizations and you have not given the doctor/clinic documentation to the nurse, please do so as soon as possible. Sixth grade students need 2 MMR's and the Hepatitis B Series before the 7th grade. FREE immunizations are given monthly at several locations Call (602) 263-8856 for dates and times.

All medications are dispensed from the nurse's office. If your child needs to take medicine during the school hours, please bring the medication to the nurse and sign a permission slip. The medicine MUST be in the original container.

If you want information regarding "Grandparents Raising Grandchildren," call Patricia Dominguez at (602) 274-5022 ext 14.
